Meditation can be expressed as a practice in which the practitioner just sits and allows the mind to bring into a calm state with a focus on a particular object, thought or activity. Through meditation, we can reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and pain.
There are many different methods of meditation, but all have a common goal: the reflection and relaxing the mind. In this article, I will explain some of the ways of meditation that exist.
All we have to do is sit up straight, close our eyes and concentrate on our breathing. The difficulty lies in being constant:
1) Transcendental Meditation
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was the first guru who introduced Transcendental Meditation. It is much easy to learn and practice and carries multiple benefits for the practitioner. Of all the different types of meditation, this particular technique offers a unique quality of rest to the mind and body and is ideal to release stress and eliminate fatigue in a very natural way.
It consists of going to the origin of thought and isolating it; it is about discovering the origin of consciousness, connecting with your deepest self. When you connect with the source of everything, your perceptions and sensations become purer.
2) Vipassana Meditation
It was discovered and taught by Buddha thousands of years ago. The meaning of the word vipassana is “seeing things as they are.” It was taught to the people as a way to heal the body and mind by cleansing the mental impurities. Its objective is mainly to eliminate human suffering through deep observation, of the sensations that invade our body. Through this pure observation, you come to an absolute understanding of how each sensation, perception, and thought can lead to mental suffering or full joy.
It is the Buddhist meditation practically everyone knows and today is practiced by thousands of people around the world regardless of their culture or beliefs. However, to practice this technique and to fully benefit from the highest level of purification and meditation, it is suggested that professional assistance is required.
3) Zen meditation (Zazen)
It can be regarded as a means of insight into the nature of existence because of our personal affairs that calm becomes instability. When you can isolate yourself from any stimulus, your heart rate will begin to slow down.
The present moment becomes very important in this state of mental peace, and we learn to focus only on the here and now. All the sorrows of the future and the past will be kept at bay so that they do not disturb the peace of mind.
4) Taoist Meditation (Qi Gong)
The Taoist method is much more practical than the contemplative traditions that originated in India. The main characteristic of this type of meditation is the generation, transformation, and circulation of the inner energy.
This type of meditation is very suitable to promote better health and uses breathing as a strong point. It is an excellent way to improve attention and awareness at a single point.
5) Mindfulness Meditation
It is a simple type meditation. It teaches us to be intent and alert to everything we do in our lives giving conscious thought and concentration to everything we do. That helps us to be much more aware of our day to day in a more relaxed way. Through this type of meditation, we realize the runaway horse that is our mind, and we learn to be aware of this madness. Once we know the enemy, it is easier to beat him.
6) Meditation with Mantras
A mantra is one of the most traditional objects used for meditation. They are the tools to free the mind according to tradition, the process of mantra meditation seen in many religions around the world.
It attempts to restore mental peace through the use of a certain type of sounds (the mantras), which have a neutralizing effect for negative thoughts.
